Saturday - December 27, 1997: Dallas, TX
Happy 5th Night of Chanukah!
Still livin' the easy life in Big D...Notable events for today include a quick spin through Dealy Plaza (though not as quick as some) and we hope to take a shot at returning there tomorrow for a tour of the 6th Floor Museum in the old School Book Despository Building. Brad's first trip to Dallas, so we have to take in the customary sites.

Later in the evening, we caught brother-in-law Paul playing some bad drums in the band during the Saturday Evening service at the immense Lake Pointe Baptist Church ("Sharing the love of God with the unchurched people of the Lake Ray Hubbard community..."). The impressive building was once home to a TV Evangelical ministry that must not have gotten good enough ratings to pay the rent, so the Lake Pointe folks were able to move in on the cheap. They put on quite a show in the huge 4500 seat auditorium with two giant video screens, a baptismal pool that seems to float in the air, some purdy slick computer graphics, and one kick-ass sound system that could damn well rock the begeezus outta ya. Notably, Brad got to stink up the joint after the service was over and most everyone had cleared out by banging on the drums for a bit and causing quite a racket over the hum of the maintence men's vacuum cleaners. Hoping God wears earplugs.

Fajitas and Margaritas capped the evening at Uncle Julios, one of Desi's favorite local Mexican haunts. Oh, forgot the swing by "Bob's" earlier in the evening, with one of the most impressive Christmas yard light displays the suburbs have ever seen. Hoping God wears sunglasses.
