Sunday - January 18, 1998: Grand Canyon, AZ to Kingman, AZ
Gettin' our Kicks...
Good news! We didn't plunge into the Canyon last night in our sleep! So you still get a few more fascinating days of the B&D SRO before we reach Hellay!

We awoke to a lovely day on the rim of the Canyon, caught a couple more Mary Elizabeth Colter buildings and then hightailed it outta the National Park by the crack of 2pm. Just to the South of the park, in a town called Tusayan (where we had spent the previous night) we caught the 2:30pm showing of GRAND CANYON: THE HIDDEN SECRETS at the friendly neighborhood IMAX theater. We loves them IMAX movies. Very big. Infact, some shots of the Grand Canyon in this movie were actual size!! (well, maybe not, seemed like it though...really...you shoulda been there...really...)

We've determined to return to the GC sometime soon and either take a Mule Ride down to Phantom Lodge at the bottom of the Canyon, or trick Desi into...see if Desi would like to take a raft trip down the Colorado! We'll see. For the record, Mule Trips to the bottom are indeed booked up for New Years Eve 1999, so you'll have to make other plans if you were considering that. Book early...and often!

Our ride then for the afternoon towards the Vegas vacinity (we're not there yet, but getting close) was a pleasant one. Though two undeniable signs began to tell us that it's almost time to go home:
1) The Accord doesn't have the pick-up she once did before she got loaded down with crap.
2) We passed a place called Fred Flintstone's Bedrock City or something and we didn't even stop and go in!!!
...shocking but true. Signs that it indeed the End must be near.

We did, however, go slightly out of our way to drive the longest existing stretch of Historic Route 66 from Seligman, AZ to Kingman, AZ where we decided to call it quits for the night, so we could hit a couple of freak shows tomorrow that should be interesting before arriving in Sin City.

The truckstop diner in the Flying J Travel Plaza that we ate in this evening was hit by a shooting spree about five months ago, too bad it didn't occur tonight before they served Brad's steak thing.
